that looks heavy and unnecessary. it looks like it sticks a good ways out of the shroud aswell which could be a major culprit too. Being that our Fans are mostly taxed with running at a constant speed thanks to the design of helicopters always running at 100% i think the fan should be relatively easy to "tune" i dont know the reduction in speed from the engine to the Fan in regards to pulleys but i would be interested in setting up a Test bed with an external Vbelt drive to a temporary motor, i'll let your imagination run wild. this just saves taxing your engine and other components in the meantime. using an airflow meter running it up and reading the airflow out the back of the radiator. run, adjust pitch, run, adjust fan depth, run, adjust pitch.
i am sure after many trials and errors you'll come out to a fan setting very similar to that of the factory rotorway fan which is considerably much lighter. would be fun to Tinker with that fan but i am personally more interested in exploring Electric Fan options to save that Belt Driven HP for the Rotor, always hear it takes about 10 HP to run this belt driven fan. |
